BPA launch third season with a bang

BARRY CUNLIFFE and Stacia Rattray were overall winners of the BPA Scottish Grand Prix as the federation kicked off its third season on Sunday.

Cunliffe progressed to the men's overall after winning the U90kg, while Rattray shone in the women's Over 40s. Both were awarded £750 and a champion's sword.

The first guy on stage was Niall Jarvie. He brought the house down, not allowing his disability to stop him from hitting the quarter turns and all the compulsory poses.

Steven Clark stepped up in Novice Bodybuilding. With more conditioning and stage time, will be one to look out for in the future.

The masters categories are always well attended and the very conditioned Kevin Milne secured the title in what was a very close call.

Derek Wilson took to stage in the Over 50s and Over 60s. He was pipped for the win in the Over 50s by the very solid and impressive Alex Leadbetter. A youthful-looking Shaun Hannon won the Over 60s.

Mark Finnegan won the Classic Bodybuilding class against Douglas Lord, who had previously taken the Masters Classic title. Finnegan showed great balance and proportions with an impressive routine “having the time of his life”.

Next up saw Atif in the U80kg. He brought an immaculate look, good shape and he took the win and the best presentation award.

Cunliffe and Mark McMahon fought it out in the U90kg. The very impressive physique of Cunliffe took the win. He later took the overall Scottish Grand Prix title, a sword and £750 thanks to Metaltech UK.

The Over 90’s saw Chris Bayne (below) – a firm favourite with the crowd – showing his team of athletes that he walks the walk with an excellent performance for victory.

The new Novice Men’s Physique category saw a very conditioned and well-presented Shazad Anwar take the win from Graham Edgar and Alex Duthie. Duthie showed a lot of promise with good looks. A chance for redemption is Muscular Men’s Physique, where he is more suited.

Alex Manev pipped novice Anwar for the win in the Masters Men’s Physique category.

Megan Walker and Terri McDonald were both in the Novice Bikini and Junior Bikini and looked fabulous.  A more confident Walker took the win in these classes. Her arms were full with two winning trophies, two bouquets supplied from Forget Me Not Florists and 2 tiaras, invitations to the British and other prizes.

The Masters Bikini Over 35 saw an impressive Basia Henderson take the win from Dzastina. Then in the Over 40’s she placed second to a shapely Rattray, who went on to win the overall Scottish Grand Prix title with a sword and £750 to take home thanks to sponsor 525 accountancy.

The Masters Over 50 saw Tracey Fairgrieve and Linda Shields battle it out, both super glamorous. Incredibly, Shields was competing at the ripe old age of 70. The crowd was on their feet for her and, although taking second place, she was presented her with a bouquet as well as her trophy.

Classic Physique saw three awesome competitors. Finnegan (above), back after his Classic win, against Liam Macadie and Marvellous Edem. Edem had the wow factor and, with a little more conditioning, he would have been in the running for the overall. Liam Macadie also needed a touch more conditioning, but he displayed his physique brilliantly and was also in the running for best presentation award.

Muscular Men’s Physique saw Duthie go up against last year’s champion Paulo Rocha, both perfect for the category. Rocha's excellent conditioning saw him take the title from the novice Duthie. There is likely to be a close battle at the British.

Karolina Rowinska took the Figure title with a look of Meg Sylvester about her. With more conditioning, she will be a force to be reckoned with. Rattray also took the win in Open Bikini again Dsastina and McDonald.

Lisa Gauld took the Wellness title, but she looked every inch a very good bikini athlete and would be very competitive if she chose to switch for the British.
